Vacuum packaging and food shelf life

Vacuum packaging is the ideal solution to counter bacterial growth, preventing food waste and promoting more conscious food consumption.

Vacuum preservation

More and more people, both in the professional foodservice sector and at home, are paying attention to what they consume and what they discard, with a growing interest in the responsible use of food resources and vacuum preservation machines.

Which foods can be vacuum sealed?

Cereals, derivatives, and tubers

Vacuum packaging helps preserve the freshness and flavor of foods such as bread, pasta, rice, and other cereals like corn, oats, barley, and spelt. Tubers such as potatoes and sweet potatoes can also benefit from vacuum preservation, maintaining their texture and preventing sprouting.

Fruit and vegetables

Vacuum sealing fruit and vegetables such as carrots, peppers, apricots, citrus fruits, strawberries, kiwis, tomatoes, and many others helps maintain their freshness and crispness for longer. In addition, vacuum packaging reduces ripening and decomposition caused by ethylene gases produced by the fruit itself.

Milk and dairy products

Milk, yogurt, dairy products, and cheeses can benefit from vacuum packaging, preserving their freshness and protecting them from bacteria and mold. Vacuum storage can also slow down the fermentation and aging process of matured cheeses.

Meat, fish, eggs, and legumes

Foods rich in high-quality proteins such as meat, fish, eggs, and legumes can be vacuum sealed to preserve their flavor, texture, and nutritional value. Vacuum packaging reduces the risk of bacterial contamination and oxidation, ensuring optimal preservation of these sensitive foods.

All these foods can be vacuum sealed using specific food vacuum machines. Of course, for some foods, vacuum packaging can extend shelf life up to a year (rice, coffee, pasta…), while for others it only prolongs preservation by a few days (such as cheese, cold cuts, bread, or meat). However, it is important to remember that vacuum preservation does not completely eliminate the risk of spoilage, but significantly slows down the process, allowing food to maintain its quality for longer periods compared to traditional storage methods.

Why vacuum packaging makes food healthier and longer-lasting
Health benefits
Vacuum sealing and safety

The vacuum process removes air from the bags, almost completely eliminating oxygen and preventing bacterial growth. This way, food is better protected and lasts much longer, with a shelf life that can increase up to three times compared to normal refrigeration.
